US Modular, QuantumSphere to Produce Small Form-Factor Batteries
US Modular announced a deal with QuantumSphere Inc. to develop high-performance batteries for consumer electronic equipment. QuantumSphere Inc. is a manufacturer of metallic nanopowders for applications in aerospace, defense, energy, electronics and other markets demanding advanced material applications. The deal between the two Irvine-based technology companies will spawn the next generation of high-performance, low-cost batteries to fit the trend of smaller, lightweight products for the portable marketplace.
"We are very excited about our partnership with US Modular," said Kevin Mahoney of QuantumSphere Inc. "We want to provide the technology to bring products to market that help change the face of the power industry."
QuantumSphere Inc. and US Modular will develop high-performance, small form-factor, low-cost universal portable batteries for laptops, MP3 players, cell phones, and the next generation of media players. There are several advantages of using metallic materials, one being that the life of the battery will be extended and the weight of the product goes down significantly.
"Smaller is better when it comes to portable products," said US Modular CEO Nick Payzant. "We partnered with QuantumSphere because they are the leader in nanoscience using metallic material and we know that this union will bring products that will benefit consumers experiencing the all too common issues associated with electronics and power consumption."
