QuantumSphere Adds Accomplished Industry Veterans to Legal/IP and Technical Management Teams

SANTA ANA, Calif. – May 29, 2008 – QuantumSphere, Inc., a leading manufacturer of nano metals and alloys for applications in renewable energy, portable power, defense, electronics, and other markets demanding advanced materials, today announced the hiring of two experienced executives to its management team who will help guide the company in the next stages of technology, intellectual property, and business development. Vito A. Canuso has been named vice president of Intellectual Property, and Fabrizio C. Rinaldi, Ph.D., has been named director of Automotive Applications.

“Mr. Canuso and Dr. Rinaldi bring records of accomplishment and years of experience to the QuantumSphere team and will help drive the company’s technology into mainstream applications through their efforts,” said Kevin D. Maloney, President, CEO and co-founder of QuantumSphere, Inc. “As our company continues to develop advanced catalytic materials, high-performance electrode devices and related technologies, and systems for multiple clean-energy and electronics applications, we will rely on the leadership of these two accomplished individuals and their industry connections to help take the QuantumSphere and its technology to the next level.”

Mr. Canuso recently joined QuantumSphere from one of the largest intellectual property law firms in the United States – Knobbe, Martens, Olson & Bear (KMOB), LLP – where he has practiced IP law since 1990 and achieved partner status in 1995. He was also a senior member of the firm’s IP Litigation Department and its Patent Prosecution Department. Mr. Canuso is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. Canuso received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of San Diego in 1990. Additionally he holds a bachelor’s of science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Villanova University and a master’s degree in Environmental Health Engineering from the University of Notre Dame.

In this position, Mr. Canuso’s immediate focus will include managing and expanding QuantumSphere’s global patent portfolio. His responsibilities will also include developing IP strategies that are intended to enhance QuantumSphere’s growing leadership position in the clean energy market leveraging QuantumSphere’s advanced catalytic materials, electrode devices, and related technologies and systems.

Recognized as a leading authority in the emission control sector of the automotive industry, Mr. Rinaldi recently joined QuantumSphere from Tenneco, Inc., North America, where he served as chief engineer of emission technologies for five years and led efforts for the discovery and development of new emission technologies. Before that, Mr. Rinaldi held various roles at Engelhard Corporation and led the Environmental Technologies Group divisions in Italy and in South Africa. Before that, he was a senior research chemist for Karbochem, South Africa for more than four years. Dr. Rinaldi received a doctorate in Organic Chemistry from UPE (University of Port Elizabeth), in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. He currently holds two patents and has authored eight publications.
